Meet the Builder: Dave Carlisle - "Tides are Starting to Shift Towards the Trades Being a Viable Career.”
I started Bayview Builders LLC 20 years ago when I was only 20 years old...
The Story Behind Dave Carlisle.
I was first introduced to carpentry at the age of 13.
At that time I was racing youth motocross and my parents found me a job to help pay for some to the expenses.
After graduating high school I attend University of Maryland to pursue a mechanical engineering degree.
I continued to work as a carpenter during holiday's and summer breaks.
As the market continued to flourish in the late 90s I saw an opportunity to start my own business.
I bought a truck, some tools and pulled in one of good friends to help, and the rest is history.
During the first 9 years of the business we operated primarily as a subcontractor doing carpentry related tasks.
In 2009 we pivoted as the local market was in serious distress.
I contacted local architects whom we had interfaced with and presented ourselves as a general contracting option.
In the following 11 years we've grown from 6 employees to 32 and grown top line revenue 18 times.
As proud as I am personally, I know that this growth would not be possible without a great team.
My first employee 20 years ago is still here, as well as my father and several other key team members.
What makes you most excited about the future of construction?
I'm most excited about career development and the opportunities that exist in the trades.
"I feel that tides are starting to shift towards the trades being a viable career and not just a job."
We have several employees working with us who have attained degrees from various backgrounds.
This is proof that people see the value in a career of home building.
Currently, I am working within my own company to build out a detailed career path and training initiative to do our part to change the stigma surrounding the trades.
I am also working with a local community college to develop their new trade center.
What's your mantra?
Our tag line “Your vision is our Passion” speaks to a couple of different things.
We will faithfully execute the vision of the architect.
We are passionate about being involved in building peoples dreams.
And we're providing a conduit to help employees in realizing their personal goals.
Where can people connect with you?
